BOCA

Setting up a printer

The installation consists of two parts.

  • Downloading fonts to the printer ensures that you can use the printer from the browser.
  • Setting up the Tixly Device Manager

Upload fonts

To install a Boca printer, fonts must first be uploaded to the boca printer. This applies per printer, not per computer and only needs to be done once. You need two font files; arial.ttf and arialbd.ttf. Place these fonts somewhere on your pc where they are easy to find.

Download the windows program configure_boca.exe and install this on a pc you want to use to transfer to font to the printer(s). Once installed the program is called "Configure And Test".

Open this program and connect to the printer via:

  • Driver:  The printer is already installed on this computer and connected with USB or network. Click [Select A Printer] at the top left dropdown at (1) in the blue screenshot below and choose [Printer driver] and select the Boca printer from the windows list of printers like below.

  • Direct:  This is when the printer is reachable on the network, but not installed on the computer. This is the most used setup. Click [Select A Printer] at the top left dropdown (1) and choose choose [Printer Interface] and connect to the printer by selecting Ethernet and then entering the IP address of the printer.

To find the IP address click on the middle button of the printer to print a test ticket. This also contains the IP address, see ticket photo below. On the test ticket it is displayed with 'leading zeros' notation, which you should never use when entering an address. For example the ip address on the ticket is printed as: 010.000.014.088 which you should use without the leading zeros, as 10.0.14.88 when entering it somewhere.

Now that you have connected the application to the printer, click on the “Download font files”
button (3). A popup window will open, select the “Assign ID 1 to 99” option, you enter 8 here and click [Download Truetype Font] and choose the file arial.ttf from, your computer. You will see a feedback in the Messages window.

Repeat this for the other font:  Enter ID 9 and click [Download Truetype Font] and choose the file arialbd.ttf.

Using the same program Configure_BOCA, some code should be sent to the printer to activate the printing of special characters. This can be done by clicking Send Text and sending the following code to the printer: <fe9>.

The printer is now ready for usage.
